What does it mean
to be a seeker?

How can I
know God?

Sermon Notes

Intimate Relationships According to God:
Singleness NOT According to "Friends"

September 20, 2009 – Pastor Dave Scherrer

Matthew 19:10-12

The disciples said to him, "If such is the case of a man with his wife, it is better not to marry." But he said to them, "Not everyone can receive this saying, but only those to whom it is given.

For there are eunuchs who have been so from birth, and there are eunuchs who have been made eunuchs by men, and there are eunuchs who have made themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven. Let the one who is able to receive this receive it."

I Corinthians 7:6-7

Now as a concession, not a command, I say this. I wish that all were as I myself am. But each has his own gift from God, one of one kind and one of another.

Notes:

Myth-busting the message of our post modern “Friends” –

Singleness and cohabitating as a response to marriage

The perception of being single

Casual intimate relationships without consequence

This is important for every person!

Understanding Singleness

Singleness and the family

Singleness According to God

The Gift of God (?)

The answer to most of it . . .

Is to redirect our attention and to be content

Philippians 4:11-13

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need. I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
