What does it mean
to be a seeker?

How can I
know God?

"Why Do We Love the Darkness?"
Sermon Five
of Five

March 29, 2009 – Pastor Dave Scherrer

John 1:4 – 5 (ESV) In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Romans 3:9-20 (ESV) What then? Are we Jews any better off? No, not at all. For we have already charged that all, both Jews and Greeks, are under sin, as it is written:
"None is righteous, no, not one;
no one understands;
no one seeks for God.
All have turned aside; together they have become worthless;
no one does good,
not even one."

"Their throat is an open grave;
  they use their tongues to deceive."
"The venom of asps is under their lips."

"Their mouth is full of curses and bitterness."
"Their feet are swift to shed blood;
their paths are ruin and misery,
and the way of peace they have not known."

"There is no fear of God before their eyes."

Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

John 3:19-22 (ESV) And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God."  After this Jesus and his disciples went into the Judean countryside, and he remained there with them and was baptizing.

Romans 3:21-22 (LNT) But now God has shown us a different way to heaven – not by “being good enough” and trying to keep His laws, but by a new way (though not new, really, for the Scriptures told about it long ago). Now God says He will accept and acquit us – declare us “not guilty” – if we trust Jesus Christ to take away our sins. And we all can be saved in this same way, by coming to Christ, no matter who we are or what we have been like.

Notes:

What is the deal about darkness?

None are worthy, no not one!

Telling our secrets – letting the light in.
